Updating your Bathroom Lighting will give you a whole new look and appearance for your bathrooms décor
If you want to save some money on your electric bill, adding natural light to your bathroom lighting is a great way to do it. It can be done quite simply. Most bathrooms already come with a small window. You can have even more natural bathroom lighting by adding a bathroom skylight or a high cluster bathroom window. The bathrooms window that you have now can also be enlarged. The blue white coloring of natural light helps illuminate the surfaces in your bathroom. Making the bathroom feel larger then it is. To highlight the bathroom tile or the bathroom vanities try to add some indirect natural light. You may need to filter natural sunlight if you have gloss laminate bathroom vanities or textured surfaces because you can get a glare. To make the bathroom lighting a little subtler you can use diffuser panels that remain stationary, or that are moveable. These panels disperse the lighting. You could also add an awning to the out side of your home. Either option will allow the benefits of the natural bathroom lighting without the glares.
Using Artificial Bathroom Vanity Lighting
For bathroom vanity lighting there are two types you can choose from. You can have the incandescent lights or lights that use fluorescent lighting. The incandescent lights are usually small and very bright. They can be used in recess bathroom lighting, surface mounted, or suspended. They also generate a little heat. The fluorescent lighting does not generate heat but they are a bit bulkier because they need a ballast running to them. Usually a good combination of the two will make your bathroom lighting more even and eliminate shadows. A neat way to incorporate bathroom vanity lighting is to run low wattage bulbs under the bathroom vanity near the toe kicks, this is a great night light idea.
Here are some tips for your bathroom vanity lighting:
· To avoid glare do not have exposed light bulbs, especially eye level.
· With lighter color palettes, use softer lighting to make the bathroom feel larger.
· If your bathroom ceilings are low use a flat light or incorporate recessed fixtures.
· If you have high ceilings you have more chooses, in fact you can include a suspended light fixture that will further enhances the volume of the room.
· Small light sources create a sharp shadow where as the large light sources give more of the diffused shadows.
· The color of the bathroom lighting should flow with the bathroom décor colors and not clash against them.
· For a calm effect use soft lights. Bright lights can be used if you want a stimulating effect.
